MOEN AND THE 116TH ST BLOCK ASSOCIATION JOIN FORCES TO GIVE EAST HARLEM RESIDENTS A FRESH START IN THE NEW YEAR“Alcanzando Sueños con Moen” Program Supports Affordable Housing

NEW YORK, NY (December 17, 2009)As part of a national program to support the cause of affordable housing in the Hispanic community, Moen Incorporated, the #1 faucet brand in North America, has partnered with the 116th Street Block Association, a prominent non-profit organization in East Harlem. Through the program, called Alcanzando Sueños con Moen (“Achieving Dreams with Moen”), the company is donating kitchen and bathroom faucets, showerheads and other fixtures for all residences at Colón Plaza Apartments, a new affordable housing community currently under redevelopment by the 116th Street Block Assocition in Harlem.

The 116th Street Block Association is a prominent not-for-profit community based organization located in East Harlem and serving residents of Community Board 11. The organization was created in 1976 with the view of collabortating in a recuperating strategy for the community and active in the areas of tenant leadership development and organization, improving housing from negligent landlords; promoting neighborhood stability and the provision of low-income housing.

The Alcanzando Sueños con Moen program was launched by Moen Incorporated in May of 2007 in partnership with the Hispanic Housing Development Corporation, a major nonprofit builder of affordable homes in and around Chicago. Through the program, Moen contributes several hundred thousand dollars worth of products annually to affordable housing projects serving predominantly Hispanic communities around the country. The 116th Street Block Association is Moen’s third affordable housing partner in New York City. In November of last year the company announced its relationship with the Southside United Housing Development Fund, a prominent non-profit organization in Brooklyn known also as “Los Sures.” In October of this year, a partnership with Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation, also of Brooklyn, was announced.

Other Moen partners in the program across the United States to date include the Centro Campesino Farmworker Center in South Florida, Chicanos por la Causa in Phoenix, Arizona and the Montebello Housing Corporation in Los Angeles, California.

Moen sees enormous potential in the dynamic and growing Hispanic market, according to Kathy Flinn, Moen’s Director of Advertising and Brand. Flinn cites several reasons for Moen’s enthusiasm about the Hispanic market, including the powerful brand loyalty that is characteristic of Latino consumers, the role of the kitchen as the “heart” of the Hispanic household and the expected growth in Hispanic home ownership in the years to come. “There are about 6 million Hispanic homeowners in the United States today,” said Flinn. “That number is expected to double over the next decade. Home ownership, as we all know, is central to the American Dream and Moen is delighted to be partnering with important organizations like the 116th Street Block Association to empower ever increasing numbers of people to achieve it.”

“Moen’s generous donation will bring top quality fixtures for the bathroom and kitchen to our residents and create a modern and comfortable living environment for the them,” said Candy Vasquez, Executive Director of the 116th Street Block Association. “We look forward to deepening our relationship with Moen Incorporated as we build homes today to serve low-income families throughout our community.”
