NYC Department of Sanitation Announces Service Alerts for Christmas Day 2019 and New Year’s Day 2020

Note: With “back-to-back” Wednesday holidays, we offer service announcements for both Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, as those with Wednesday recycling collection require special guidance.

Please note that snow operations may affect collection services. It is not unusual for collection times to differ after a holiday and during the winter season.

Christmas Day

The New York City Department of Sanitation announced that there would be no trash, curbside compost or recycling collection, nor street cleaning on Christmas Day, Wednesday, December 25, 2019.

  • Residents who normally receive Wednesday trash and curbside composting collection should place their materials out at curbside after 4 p.m. on Wednesday, December 25 for collection beginning Thursday, December 26.
  • Residents normally receiving Wednesday recycling collection should place their material out at curbside after 4 p.m. on Wednesday, January 1 for collection Thursday, January 2.

New Year’s Day

The New York City Department of Sanitation announced that there would be no trash, curbside compost or recycling collection, nor street cleaning on New Year’s Day, Wednesday, January 1, 2020.

  • Residents who normally receive Wednesday trash and curbside composting collection should place their materials out at curbside after 4 p.m. on Wednesday, January 1 for collection on beginning Thursday, January 2.
  • Residents normally receiving Wednesday recycling collection should place their material out at curbside after 4 p.m. on Wednesday, January 1 for collection Thursday, January 2.
