Opt Out Form for Class Action Law Suit Brought Against NYC DOE

Dear Education Advocates,

Due to a class action law suit brought against the NYC Dept. of Education regarding special education services, the DOE is required to submit personal information of students with IEPs to the plaintiffs.  While privacy of students is protected under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the law does permit disclosure of private information pursuant to a court order if the DOE notifies parents and give them an opportunity to object to the submission of personal information.

The deadline to submit your objection is May 11th.

You can find the form to submit on the DOE website (scroll down to “Opt Out Form”)
